Plymouth itself has a plethora of outstanding attractions. The historical heart of the city is the Plymouth Barbican here you can call in to the the 16th century Merchants House Museum, or pay a visit to the Elizabethan House, an then there is the Mayflower Steps, symbolical as the point that the Pilgrim Fathers embarked for the New World in 1620. The Old Fish Market is nowadays the home of the Barbican Glassworks, or you take in a guided tour of the Plymouth Gin Distillery, England’s Oldest working distillery.
Pop over the Sutton Harbour Lock Gates to the National Marine Aquarium, this is a must see attraction for the entire family. Kids are bewitched by the seahorses, and adults stare in awe at the cinema screen sized Atlantic Wall. Watch the conger eel and sharks appearing of the gloom to investigate the scuba divers during feeding time. Turtles glide past the window of the Coral Sea and schools of silver mullet of shoal just below the water’s surface in the tidal zone.
A boat trip into Plymouth Sound and past the Royal Navy Dockyards at Devonport is another must, you can even sail up the River Taymar (tides permitting) to Brunels historic Saltash Bridge.
That is just a small taste of that you can see and do in Plymouth a week will not be enough, I guarantee once you have visited this part of the world you will want to return time and time again and there will always be something new to experience.
