North Cyprus declared its independence from the southern half of the island in 1983, nine years after a Greek Cypriot coup attempting to annex the island to Greece triggered a Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The Republic has received diplomatic recognition only from Turkey, on which it is dependent for economic, political and military support.
The isolation has caused hardship for the people of North Cyprus, but it has meant that it is one of the few gems of the Mediterranean which has been unspoiled by mass tourism. On the crossroads of three continents, the island has been invaded time and time again, leading to a rich and varied culture.

Untouched beaches, legendary hospitality and a wealth of history combine to make this an unforgettable holiday experience. North Cyprus boasts a slow pace of life, value for money and gorgeous sunshine for all those sun-starved Brits.
