Limassol is the 2nd biggest city on in island of Cyprus, with a population of around 150,000. The city which stretches fro 10 miles along the is positioned on Akrotiri Bay, on the south coast of the island and it is largest port in the Mediterranean transit trade. It is also an important and popular tourist destination.

North Cyprus declared its independence from the southern half of the island in 1983, nine years after a Greek Cypriot coup attempting to annex the island to Greece triggered a Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
